Share on Twitter Share on Facebook 2 min readThe 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Paradise is comprised of 15 bracelet events, and two of those are online events at GGPoker. On Sunday, Dec. 8, the $2,750 buy-in Event #4: GGMasters Online Championship featured a $2,500,000 guarantee, but with only 813 entrants the field enjoyed a juicy $467,500 overlay.
The two-day tournament ended with Brazil’s Matheus Cardoso Machado as the last player standing to claim a $432,623 first-place prize and his first WSOP online gold bracelet.
Day 1 of the tournament ended with 24 players remaining and the Netherlands’ Werner “HansDenSvans” Lootsma and his stack of 994,433 (82.9BB) leading the pack. That was a good bit ahead of Finland’s Eero “Whims of Fortun” Abbey, who was second in chips with 631,711 (52.6BB).
The final table of the online event was reached right around the same time as that of the Triton Millions in The Bahamas. The first elimination at the GGMasters Online Championship came when the short-stacked Darnell Simpson got his chips all in preflop holding the 8♦8♣and was up against the K♠K♣of Machado.
Simpson actually took the lead by spiking an eight on the 6♣9♦8♥flop, but it was short-lived as the K♦peeled off on the turn to give Machado the bigger set. The 9♣river changed nothing and Simpson became the first final table casualty.
The start-of-the-day chip leader Lootsma was the next to go a few hands later in seventh place, and then Ireland’s Scott Margerson followed in sixth after failing to get lucky with pocket deuces all in preflop against the aces of Andrey Pateychuk.
Abbey, who began the day second in chips, saw their run come to an end in fifth place and then Cambodia’s Hyeinsik Yun was bounced in fourth place. In three-handed play, Andorra’s Joao Pedro Do Couto Tomas was extremely short and eventually got in his last few blinds with the 6♦5♦only to run into the 10♦10♥of Pateychuk, with the pocket pair holding.
That set up a heads-up match between Machado and Pateychuk with the former holding approximately 5.5 million to the latter’s 3.2 million. The duo battled back and forth, but ultimately Machado prevailed to deny Pateychuk his first bracelet.
