The hype leading up to the 2024 PokerStars North American Poker Tour (NAPT) Las Vegas festival was high. Two days into the series and it's easy to see why.
Event #1: $550 Mystery Bounty at Resorts World Las Vegas featured a $300,000 guaranteed prize pool. Play kicked off Friday with the first two Day 1 starting flights, followed by additional ones on Saturday. At the time of publishing, with registration still open for a few more hours on Day 1d, the tournament had over 700 entrants, creating a prize pool exceeding the guarantee. And there's still one flight left at noon PT on Sunday.

If the first tournament is any indication for how big the second annual NAPT Las Vegas will be, suffice to say it's going to be huge. Players flocked to the Resorts World poker room for four straight sessions — and one still to come. We even saw the return of Eric Molina, the notorious trash talker who had his 15 minutes of fame during the 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event.
Molina, 18 years older than he was in 2006, was quieter and refrained from berating his opponents. But he did bust on the soft bubble with a set of aces against a straight on the flop near the end of the Day 1b session.
Pros such as Michael Wang, Christina Gollins, and Chris Moorman all entered Day 1c.
Day 1e on Sunday will likely be the largest starting flight of the Mystery Bounty event, which means the prize pool could crack $500,000. There are 31 tournaments total at Resorts through Nov. 10. The next one to begin will be the $1,100 RunGood Poker Open at 11 a.m. PT on Monday, a $400,000 guaranteed RunGood Poker Series (RGPS) tournament.
The $5,300 Main Event kicks off Nov. 5 and runs until the 10th. There will be at least $3 million in the pot in what figures to be one of the biggest poker events of the year in Las Vegas.

- Ares is aware that opponents can enhance their hands with each card that is discarded. As a result, he approaches this stage cautiously and strategically. One of his main guidelines is to refrain from discarding cards that might enable his rivals to finish their melds. 25-01-08
- Success depends on knowing the fundamentals, regardless of the version. Players need to become acquainted with the scoring system, learn how to create melds efficiently, and hone their timing skills for drawing and discarding cards. - Over the years, Ares has refined this ability, which enables him to predict the moves of his opponents and modify his gameplay accordingly. Keeping a careful eye on the cards that opponents draw and discard is one of his main strategies. An opponent's concentration on finishing a run or set in a particular suit, for instance, may be indicated if they routinely pick up cards from that suit while discarding others. Ares can decide for himself which cards to keep or discard by identifying these trends early on. Ares stresses not only the significance of watching card movements but also the significance of behavioral cues and body language while playing. 25-01-08
- Prioritizing forming runs over sets whenever feasible is one of his main tactics. This preference results from the fact that runs are frequently simpler to finish because cards are sequential. For example, Ares will actively look for an 8 or 4 of hearts to finish his run if he has a 5, 6, and 7 of hearts. This strategy not only speeds up the blending process but also leaves his options open for unexpected turns. Ares can frequently take advantage of opponents' cards that are discarded by concentrating on runs, transforming what could appear to be a disadvantage into an opportunity. 25-01-08

- He might decide to discard one or more of his high-value cards in favor of lower-value cards that would make it easier for him to construct runs or sets, for instance, if he finds himself holding several of them with no immediate chance of melding them. By taking this proactive stance, he reduces the risk involved in holding onto valuable cards while maintaining hand flexibility. The ability to discern when to break up possible mergers for increased strategic advantage is another crucial component of hand management. Dismantling a promising card combination may seem counterintuitive, but Ares understands that doing so occasionally creates new opportunities for more skillful melding of other combinations. He might decide to break up the first combination in favor of pursuing a more advantageous strategy overall, for example, if he recognizes that another suit offers better chances for completing additional melds after holding three consecutive cards in that suit. Ares's ability to adjust and reevaluate his hand consistently distinguishes him as a strong player. 25-01-08
